The seventy-second UN resolution condemns serious human rights violations in Iran

On 19 November 2025, the Third Committee of the UN General Assembly adopted a resolution condemning the grave and systematic human rights violations in Iran, with 79 votes in favour and 28 against. This is the 72nd UN resolution condemning the crimes of the clerical regime in Iran.

The resolution strongly condemns the alarming and significant increase in executions and expresses deep concern over the use of the death penalty as a tool for political repression and the silencing of opponents and protesters, as well as the rising number of executions of women and minors. The resolution denounces the regime’s actions to suppress protests, including those that began in September 2022, particularly the use of the death penalty against individuals connected to the demonstrations.

The resolution expresses serious concern over the Iranian regime’s lack of accountability for longstanding human rights violations, such as ongoing enforced disappearances, extrajudicial executions, and the destruction of evidence and cemeteries. It stresses that the lack of accountability among officials, as well as the systematic and ongoing impunity for human rights violations, enables the repetition and continuation of such abuses. The resolution also expresses concern over incitement to discrimination, hostility, and violence in state-controlled media, reminiscent of the mass and arbitrary executions of 1988.
