IRAQ: Siege against Iranian opposition Camp Liberty intensifies

In the third week, in addition to obstructing entry of items necessary for maintenance and repair of the infrastructures, the Iraqi forces are barring entry of basic necessities such as kitchen and hygiene equipment

NCRI – On June 3, in the third week of the intensification of the siege on Camp Liberty, by orders of the Governmental Committee tasked to suppress Ashraf, the Iraqi forces are even barring entry of basic necessities of life in addition to the items needed for maintenance and repair of electricity and water systems and camps infrastructure.

Some of the items that were stopped from being brought to the camp on Wednesday, June 3, were: kitchen equipment, evaporative-water-cooler and its components, fans, plastic water tanks, light bulbs, electric sockets and plugs, water hoses, shower faucets, toothpaste and toothbrush, skin cream, insecticides, shampoo, cloth, sewing items, small size batteries, sponge, flashlights, nails, glue, bicycle spare parts, vehicle batteries, generator adapters, stick electrodes, cement, and electric generator spare parts. UNAMI had been informed of these items. Obstructing entry of these items, especially in the hot season, has given rise to much problem for the residents.

Today is the eighteenth day that agents of the governmental committee, including Colonel Sadeq Mohammed Kadhim and Major Ahmed Khozair, are preventing entry of vital items to the camp at entrance No. 4 of the airport area at the behest of Iranian regime’s embassy in Baghdad. Residents’ representatives have on a daily basis informed UNAMI representatives on the details of this antihuman siege.

Preventing entry of basic living items is in direct breach of the Memorandum of Understanding signed between the United Nations and Government of Iraq on 25 December 2011, as well as a violation of many international covenants and a criminal that befits legal prosecution.

The Iranian resistances calls on the United Nations and the U.S. government that have repeatedly and in writing committed themselves to the wellbeing and security of Liberty residents to adopt urgent measures to end this antihuman siege.
