Women’s Rights Activist Maryam Zia Tried at Revolutionary Court

Women’s and children’s rights activist Maryam Zia was summoned to the ourt on Sunday July 4 and was tried although despite the absence of the prosecutor’s representative. She was tried and charged with “propaganda against the system” based on Act 500 of the penal law.

According to HRDAI, Judge Moghiseh’s behavior was similar to that of Ministry of Intelligence interrogators; he shouted, threatened and insulted Maryam Zia at the court and told her “You are a hypocrite and should be executed.”

According to this report, Maryam Zia is suffering from physical problems due to mental tortures she had withstood during her detention, and her condition has not improved during the relatively long time since her arrest.

Maryam Zia, a women’s and children’s rights activist was arrested on December 31, 2009 by the Ministry of Intelligence agents. She was then taken to the solitary cells of ward 209 in Evin where she was mentally tortured by the interrogators of Ministry of Intelligence for two months.
