15 Political Prisoners End Hunger Strike

15 political prisoners on hunger strike for two weeks, finally put an end to their hunger strike.  According to reports from Kaleme, these political prisoners decided to end their hunger strike based on requests by the leaders and other figures in the Green movement.

The five demands of the political prisoners on hunger strike for 16 days was as follows: full compliance with prisoner rights as described in the prison regulations, Legal ramifications and penalties for prison authorities and prison guards violating the law, immediate and unconditional release of photo journalist Babak Bordbar, increase in the duration of allotted time for phone calls and improvement in medical and hygienic facilities for every prisoner and immediate and complete implementation of the law as it pertains to prisoners.

Ali Malihi, student activist and member of Daftar-e Tahkim Vahdat (student alumni organization), Bahman Ahmad Amouie, journalist, Hossein Nourinejad, journalist and member of the Participation Front (reformist party), Abdollah Momeni, student activist and spokesperson for Daftar-e Tahkim Vahdat, Ali Parviz, student activist, Hamid Reza Mohammadi, political activist, Jafar Eghdami, civil society activist, Babak Bordbar, photo journalist, Zia Nabavi, starred student and member of the Council to Defend the Right to Education, Ebrahim (Nader) Babaie, civil society activist and an injured veteran of the Iran-Iraq war, Kouhyar Goodarzi, human rights activist and blogger, Majid Dorri, student activist, Majid Tavakoli, student activist, Keyvan Samimi, journalist, Gholamhossein Arashi, Mohammad Hossein Sohrabi Rad and Peyman Karimi Azad arrested during an Ashura protest in Tehran were amongst the prisoners transferred to solitary confinement and on a hunger strike for two weeks.

At the time this report was published, Keyvan Samimi had NOT ended his hunger strike, stating that he will continue to fast until the other 15 political prisoners are transferred from solitary confinement to the general ward at Evin. Keyvan Samimi has promised to end his hunger strike as soon as his 15 prison mates who have ended their hunger strike are transferred back to Evin’s ward 350. In solidarity with his prison mates, starting today, Samimi has switched from a dry to a wet hunger strike (no food).
